France Defeat England 2-1 To Set Up Morocco Semifinal
France have set up a World Cup semifinal meeting with Morocco after defeating England 2-1 in a quarterfinal tie in Qatar on Saturday night.
It was a disappointing end for England who did put up a fine performance against the defending champions.
It was France who scored first through Aurelien Tchouaméni in the first half before Harry Kane equalized in the 54th minute through a spot kick after Tchouameni fouled Bukayo Saka.
Olivier Giroud later netted the winner in the 78th minute to hand France the semifinal place.
A late penalty awarded to England after Theo Hernandez fouled substitute Mason Mount in the box, could have pushed the game further but Kane missed the kick.
His earlier goal had seen the Tottenham Hotspur forward equal Wayne Rooney’s England record of 53 goals from the spot.
France will now face Morocco as they battle for a place in the final.
