Fresh Shock In Osun As Gov. Adeleke’s Ally Emir Is Laid To Rest, Another Body Emerges

The remains of Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir Ajagungbade and an ally of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, have been laid to rest at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo in accordance with traditional rites.

According to Bush Radio Academy, traditionalists conducted the burial rites in the presence of close family members and priests following the arrival of Emir’s remains from the Osun State University Teaching Hospital in Osogbo.

Associates of the deceased who accompanied his remains were reportedly asked to remain outside the premises while the traditional rites were being performed.

The situation at the hospital was said to have become tense after suspected associates of the deceased allegedly attacked two morgue workers for reportedly recording the proceedings with their mobile phones. Additional police vehicles were subsequently deployed to the medical facility and helped restore normalcy.

Emir, a chieftain of the Accord Party in Osun State, was reportedly shot dead on Sunday during a clash at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife involving him and a group led by another National Union of Road Transport Workers leader known as Sibi.

Governor Adeleke later confirmed Emir’s death through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and directed the state Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, to identify and apprehend those responsible for the killing.

The circumstances surrounding the killing have also been linked to reported moves by some members of the transport union to install Emir as the next Osun State chairman of the NURTW.

Giving an update on the incident on Monday, the Osun State Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed that another corpse had been recovered from the premises of the Mayfair Motor Park, bringing the number of people killed in the shooting to two.

Ojelabi said Governor Adeleke had ordered the closure of the motor park following the violence, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

“The governor has decided that the park should not operate. The park has not been operating. A corpse was also recovered by the police, and it has been deposited at the morgue,” Ojelabi said.

The police spokesperson urged anyone being mentioned in connection with the incident to report to the nearest police station rather than using social media to defend themselves.

He added that the Commissioner of Police had assured that everyone found to be involved would be apprehended and prosecuted according to the law, regardless of their status.

Investigations are ongoing as security authorities work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting and determine those responsible for the deaths.
