Fresh Twist as EFCC Denies Freezing All Osun Government Accounts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports suggesting that it froze all bank accounts belonging to the Osun State Government, clarifying that only one account has been placed under temporary restriction as part of an ongoing investigation.

The clarification was made on Thursday by the Commission’s Director of Public Affairs, Wilson Uwujaren, during an interview on Arise News.

According to Uwujaren, the affected account is the specific one linked to the EFCC’s investigation after the commission detected what it described as suspicious financial activities.

He explained that the restriction was imposed as a temporary investigative measure and does not extend to the state’s other bank accounts.

Uwujaren stressed that the anti-graft agency is empowered by law to place temporary restrictions on accounts under investigation whenever suspicious transactions are identified.

He maintained that contrary to widespread reports, the EFCC did not freeze all Osun State Government accounts, insisting that only the account directly connected to the ongoing probe remains under restriction.
