2027 Moves Gather Pace As Peter Obi, Kwankwaso Hold High-Stakes Meeting With Dickson

The presidential and vice-presidential candidates of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, have held a strategic meeting with the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, in Abuja as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.

The meeting comes amid growing concerns over the leadership crisis within the OK Movement, the political coalition formed by the Obidient Movement and the Kwankwassiyya Movement.

The coalition has recently witnessed internal disagreements, with rival factions reportedly emerging, raising fears among supporters that the dispute could affect the alliance’s chances ahead of the next general election.

Although the exact issues behind the disagreement have not been made public, the crisis has continued to attract attention within the party and among its supporters.

Confirming the meeting in a post on his official Facebook page, Dickson disclosed that he hosted Obi and Kwankwaso at his Abuja residence to discuss the progress of the party and its preparations for the next phase of political activities.

According to the former Bayelsa State governor, the discussions focused on strengthening the party ahead of the commencement of campaigns expected later this month.

Dickson also appealed to party members, supporters and stakeholders to remain united despite the challenges facing the coalition, stressing that solidarity and commitment would be essential to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.

Meanwhile, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has come under scrutiny following an apparent discrepancy on its portal involving the NDC’s Edo South Senatorial candidate.

The electoral body’s portal reportedly displayed the photograph of Sunny Aguebor alongside the name of Epelle-Asemota Bridgitte Osayuki as the party’s candidate for the senatorial district, creating confusion over the actual nominee.

Reacting to the development, former Senate Chief Whip, Rowland Owie, described the listing as irregular, insisting that Aguebor emerged as the party’s candidate during a primary election monitored by INEC.

Owie alleged that the discrepancy may have resulted from actions taken by a national official of the NDC and maintained that Aguebor remains the party’s legitimate candidate for the Edo South senatorial seat.
