Fresh Twist In Kanu’s Trial: IPOB Leader Petitions NBA Against 3 Judges

In a petition personally signed and released to journalists on Sunday through his lawyer, Umesi, Kanu alleged that Justices Binta Nyako, Haruna Tsammani, and Garba Lawal had committed a miscarriage of justice, citing what he described as “a catalogue of infractions” in the handling of his case.
Kanu, who has been held at the Department of State Services (DSS) facility in Abuja since his controversial rendition from Kenya in June 2021, insisted that the actions of the judges “remain an indelible stain on Nigeria’s legal conscience.”
He urged the NBA, currently in session in Enugu, to probe the allegations, sanction the judges if found culpable, and issue a strong report condemning “the use of civil procedures to undermine criminal law and the revival of repealed statutes.”
The IPOB leader also demanded that the Association affirm that “no Nigerian should again be subjected to detention by abduction or trial under repealed laws,” stressing that holding erring judges accountable was critical to restoring public trust in the judiciary.
