From Auchi But Can’t Speak Edo – Toyin Abraham Reveals The Real Reason Behind Her Language Struggle

The actress made this revelation during the premiere of her new movie “Ginger” while chatting with TikToker Jarvis, who commended her impressive command of the Yoruba language.

Toyin explained that Yoruba has become her primary language because she was born and raised in Yorubaland and is married to a Yoruba man, making the culture and language a core part of her life.

In her words:

“Yoruba is like my major language. I can’t speak Edo. I was born and brought up in Yorubaland, and I married a Yoruba man. So, I’m practically Yoruba. I can’t even speak Edo, not a bit. But there’s no Yoruba I can’t speak.”

Although Toyin hails from Auchi in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State, she spent her early years and education in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Her father, Pastor B. E. Aimakhu, and her mother were both Edo indigenes, yet Toyin grew up deeply rooted in Yoruba culture.

She attended Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and later Ibadan Polytechnic, before fully venturing into her successful acting career.
