From Friendship To Trafficking: Anambra Woman Shares Horrors Of Libya Prostitution....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Chika Obiakaeze, a 21-year-old woman from Anambra State, has shared her harrowing ordeal of being trafficked to Libya for prostitution by a male acquaintance she met on Facebook.

Originally enrolled in a fashion school in Nigeria, Chika’s life took a distressing turn when this acquaintance offered her a job as a domestic worker in Libya, promising good pay and the opportunity to work with foreign nationals.

In an interview with DAILY POST, Chika recounted how she was introduced to the acquaintance’s sister, based in Libya, who would supposedly provide accommodation and employment upon her arrival.

Reflecting on how she met this online acquaintance, Chika explained, “We weren’t close, I barely knew his last name. When he introduced me to his sister, I believed he was genuinely trying to help me.”

She continued, “I was learning tailoring when he offered me this opportunity. He said it was a well-paying job working for expatriates. So, he gave me his sister’s contact, and I reached out to her.”

Assured by the sister that the job was legitimate, Chika prepared for the journey. However, her decision was driven by desperation, having faced alleged rejection by her mother in her earlier years.

Chika revealed, “My mother left me at a young age to marry, believing she wouldn’t find a husband if she had me. She never disclosed details about my father. I lived with my aunt, who supported my education until junior secondary school.”

Her aunt later arranged for her to learn tailoring due to tensions with her husband. Struggling financially, Chika saw the promise of high earnings in Libya as a lifeline.

Without informing anyone, Chika embarked on the journey, naively trusting the promises made to her. The journey through the Sahara Desert was grueling, with Chika and approximately 100 other girls enduring cramped conditions and physical hardship.

Upon reaching Libya, Chika’s hopes were dashed when she realized she was expected to engage in prostitution, contrary to the initial agreement. When she protested, she was threatened with “juju,” a form of fetish magic.

Chika commenced her journey to Libya in September 2022 and arrived in November 2022. Her experience serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by victims of human trafficking, particularly young women seeking better opportunities.
