A civil society organization, New Rivers Agenda, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of attempting to exert undue influence in Rivers State politics. The group asserts that Wike’s insatiable greed lies at the root of the state’s ongoing crisis.

According to the group, the people of Rivers State did not err in electing Governor Siminalayi Fubara. They allege that Wike fears facing scrutiny regarding his governance of Rivers State for eight years.

In a statement released to Naija News on Sunday, the group’s president, Johnson Zinaka, claimed that Fubara liberated the people of Rivers from Wike’s dominance.

Zinaka stated, “Rivers people made the right choice in electing Sim Fubara as governor. Governor Fubara has been instrumental in the state’s progress, earning the satisfaction of the people. He bravely confronted the oppressive rule of Nyesom Wike, which saw state resources diverted for personal gain.”

“The ongoing crisis in the state stems from the selfish ambitions of an individual who was elected to serve, not rule as a deity,” Zinaka continued. “Former Governor Nyesom Wike is resentful because Governor Siminalayi Fubara prioritizes the welfare of the people in the state’s development.”

Zinaka further described Wike’s tenure as marked by intimidation, oppression, and favoritism. “Under Wike’s leadership, dissent was not tolerated, and state resources were misappropriated for personal and political gain,” he added.
