From Music To Tears: Adekunle Gold Shares The Crazy Reason He Last Cried

The “Many People” star shared on a podcast that the last time he cried was a few months ago while walking down the street. The tearful moment came as he watched his daughter, Deja, perform for the first time through a video call.

He described the overwhelming mix of pride and longing, realizing he couldn’t be there in person to witness such a milestone in his daughter’s life. The experience also made him reflect on the sacrifices required to balance a thriving music career with family life.

Adekunle Gold revealed that this emotional moment inspired his song “My Love is the Same.” He said:

“When was the last time I cried? That was it, about two or three months ago. Do you remember why? Oh yeah, Deja was performing and I wasn’t there, so they called me on video. It was her first performance. I was like, nah, this is crazy. It’s the price you pay for building your career while also taking care of your family. That’s one of the reasons I wrote ‘My Love is the Same.’ It made me realize what people go through. Seeing her confident, performing—it hit me, and I started to cry.”
