“When was the last time I cried? That was it, about two or three months ago. Do you remember why? Oh yeah, Deja was performing and I wasn’t there, so they called me on video. It was her first performance. I was like, nah, this is crazy. It’s the price you pay for building your career while also taking care of your family. That’s one of the reasons I wrote ‘My Love is the Same.’ It made me realize what people go through. Seeing her confident, performing—it hit me, and I started to cry.”
