Their meeting took place on Saturday during the 11th Annual Cambridge Africa Together Conference at St. John’s College, University of Cambridge.
El-Rufai was one of the keynote speakers at the event, which brought together African leaders, academics, and innovators.
While Peter Obi contested the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party, El-Rufai, who recently defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is believed to be closely aligned with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Both Obi and El-Rufai are reported to have joined forces with Atiku to unveil an opposition coalition aimed at unseating the Bola Tinubu-led government. Speculations are growing that the SDP could become the coalition’s political platform, with El-Rufai acting as Atiku’s key figure within the party.
Meanwhile, Labour Party chieftain Ebere Uzoukwa has raised allegations against Julius Abure, accusing him of clinging to power past his tenure for personal and political leverage ahead of the 2027 elections. Uzoukwa, who serves as the Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to the Abia State Governor, shared his concerns in an interview with Vanguard in Umuahia.
