The apex court also dismissed Fubara’s appeal challenging the earlier court ruling on the state’s 2024 budget.

A five-member panel of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, rejected the appeal filed by Governor Fubara, which contested the leadership of the Rivers State House of Assembly under Martin Amaewhule, following the governor’s presentation of the budget to a rival faction.

The dismissal followed the withdrawal of the case by Fubara’s legal counsel, Yusuf Ali.

It’s worth noting that in December 2023, Governor Fubara presented the 2024 budget to the Edison Ehie-led faction of the House of Assembly. However, on October 10, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Abuja ruled against this presentation, supporting a prior Federal High Court judgment from January 22, 2024, which nullified the budget’s passage.

Lawmakers loyal to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, led by Martin Amaewhule, had taken legal action against the state government for submitting the 2024 budget to the Ehie-led assembly.
