In a thread posted on his X handle, Obi mentioned that he arrived in the Southeast Asian nation on February 2, 2025.

The 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate expressed optimism that Nigeria could reach its full potential with the right political will and effective policy implementation.

Obi highlighted Indonesia’s success in advancing its economy and improving citizens’ welfare through well-structured policies aimed at eradicating extreme poverty.

Three Key Highlights from Peter Obi’s Visit to Indonesia

  1. Governance Models:
    In his meeting with Agung Laksono, former Indonesian Minister and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Obi gained valuable insights into Indonesia’s governance strategies during the administrations of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Joko Widodo. These insights covered planning, implementation, and evaluation of development across critical sectors.
  2. Leadership and Commitment:
    Obi’s discussion with Jusuf Kalla, Indonesia’s only Vice President to serve under two different presidents, centered on the importance of commitment and decisive leadership in driving comprehensive development across various sectors.
  3. Education and Rural Development:
    During his five-day trip, Obi also met with Yandri Susanto, Minister of Villages and Development of Disadvantaged Regions. He noted that Susanto shed light on Indonesia’s rural development strategies under President Joko Widodo, focusing on education and infrastructural growth in disadvantaged regions.
