Following the release of the children, associates of the late Dr. Tiri informed Vanguard that arrangements for his burial are nearly complete.

Meanwhile, new details have emerged about Mallam Garba Gardi Funtua, the father of Aisha, a student kidnapped alongside Dr. Tiri’s children. Vanguard learned that Mallam Garba personally delivered the ransom for his daughter’s release. However, after taking the ransom and freeing his daughter, the bandits captured and later killed him.

One of Garba’s sons confirmed on Facebook that his father was killed after paying ₦2 million for Aisha’s release. The bandits subsequently demanded an additional ₦5 million, but did not disclose that they had already killed Garba 17 days prior, the day after his capture.

The Facebook post stated: “With total submission to the will of Allah (SWT), I announce the death of my father, Alh. Abubakar Garba Gardi Funtua. He was killed by the bandits who kidnapped my sister last month. The Jana’iza will be held tomorrow, 5/08/2024, at his residence in Gangaren Tasaulawa, Funtua, at 9 am, inshaAllah. Please pray for his soul.
