The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) issued public notices confirming the revocation, which affects several high-profile individuals, including former Governors Rochas Okorocha (Imo), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa), Shaaba Lafiagi (Kwara), Ahmad Sani (Zamfara), and Kabiru Gaya (Kano). Other prominent figures affected include former and current federal lawmakers such as Enyinnaya Abaribe, Abdul Ningi, Sunday Karimi, Abdulfatai Buhari, Dino Melaye, Barnabas Gemade, Shehu Sani, Adeyemi Adaramodu, Abba Moro, Danjuma La’ah, and Abdulmumin Jibrin, among many others.
In addition, Wike has threatened to revoke the Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O) for 614 other individuals and companies if they do not pay their outstanding bills within two weeks. The notice referenced Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows for the revocation of land rights for failure to comply with the terms of the grant, including non-payment of statutory fees.
According to the FCTA, the revocation is a direct consequence of the non-payment of statutory fees for the C-of-O, a breach of the terms of the land grants. The notice warned that all landowners in Maitama 1 who have failed to make payment for their C-of-O bills must settle the outstanding amounts within two weeks to avoid further action.
The notice further stated: “The Federal Capital Territory Administration hereby informs the general public, particularly allotees/title holders of land in the Maitama 1 District, that they must pay the balance of their outstanding bills within two weeks from the date of this publication, or their Rights of Occupancy titles will be withdrawn.”
In addition to the political figures, other notable individuals on the list include former Ebonyi State Governor Sam Egwu, former Minister of Aviation Stella Oduah, and Edo State Deputy Governor Dennis Idahosa. These actions highlight the government’s increasing efforts to enforce payment and curb illegal land allocation practices in the nation’scapital.
