Game Of Thrones: Mimiko Clears Air On Coordinating Jonathan’s South-West Agenda
Former Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, has denied reports claiming he was appointed to coordinate ex-President Goodluck Jonathan’s Southwest consultations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The report, carried by a national daily (not Naija News), alleged that Mimiko was chosen on the recommendation of former Osun State Governor and ADC National Secretary, Rauf Aregbesola.
But in a statement on Monday, Mimiko’s media aide, Eniola Akinsola, dismissed the publication as “false, mischievous, and nothing more than concocted rumours parading as news.”
Akinsola clarified that although Mimiko holds Jonathan in high esteem, he has not been contacted regarding any political mobilisation.
“The Mimiko I know respects former President Jonathan, but he has neither been approached nor appointed to lead a campaign that remains speculative at best. Certainly, he is not job-hunting,” Akinsola said.
The aide further noted that as the 2027 elections approach, more politically motivated fabrications targeting respected figures like Mimiko are likely to surface, especially since he has “chosen to remain relatively low-profile for now.”
Jonathan’s Rumoured Return
Talks of Jonathan staging a comeback have intensified since PDP stalwart and former Information Minister, Professor Jerry Gana, publicly declared that Jonathan would run in 2027.
“I can confirm that Goodluck Ebele Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election as PDP candidate, and Nigerians should prepare to vote him back as president,” Gana had said on September 29, 2025.
However, the Presidency dismissed the claim. Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga described it as “an absurd proposition,” warning Jonathan to be cautious of PDP “sugar-coated cheerleaders” like Gana.
“They only want to lure him into the race for selfish political, religious, and ethnic reasons. Just like in 2015, they will abandon him midway,” Onanuga cautioned.
