This development follows the formal ratification of the primary election results by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC). The certificate presentation took place at the APC national secretariat in Abuja after the submission of the primary election report by the committee led by Bassey Otu, the Governor of Cross River State. According to the report, Ukachukwu secured victory with 1,455 votes, emerging as the clear winner.
Ganduje commended Otu and his team for conducting what he described as a “free, fair, and transparent” primary process. He urged all party members, including other aspirants and their supporters, to unite behind Ukachukwu for the party’s success in the forthcoming poll.
Ukachukwu clinched the APC ticket during Saturday’s primary election, beating his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who garnered 67 votes, while Edozie Madu and Johnbosco Onunkwo received 8 and 26 votes, respectively. The Anambra governorship election is scheduled to hold on November 8, 2025.
Meanwhile, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has reiterated the party’s resolve to field credible candidates in the 2027 general elections. Speaking during the LP’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, Obi emphasized that the party would correct past errors and embrace fairness going forward.
He said:
“Let’s do the right thing. Let’s build from the ward to the local government, to the state, the zone, and nationally. Everyone should have a fair chance to contest.
We’re committed to building a party rooted in fairness and justice, a party Nigerians can be proud of. In 2027, we want to present the best candidates — for the House of Assembly, House of Reps, Senate, governorship, and all other elections. We made mistakes before, but we’ll fix them. Only committed Labour Party members will be eligible to contest. This isn’t a transit party. We’re building a party of ideology, not opportunism.
Even if we fail while doing what’s right, it’s better than succeeding on the path of injustice.”
