The Governor made this declaration while receiving Hon. Kaycee Osamwonyi, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly representing Uhunmwonde Constituency, who recently defected from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Osamwonyi, who serves on the House Committee on Budget and Appropriation, was earlier welcomed into the APC by the party’s state chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, and subsequently presented to Governor Okpebholo at the Government House in Benin City.
Governor Okpebholo applauded the defection, stating that Osamwonyi’s move, alongside that of four other lawmakers, has significantly strengthened the party in the State. He assured the new entrants of a welcoming and enabling environment to contribute meaningfully to Edo’s development.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, the Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to revitalizing all sectors of the state’s economy and improving the standard of living for its citizens.
“We’re pleased to welcome you back home. Your return is a huge gain for our party. With five lawmakers joining us, we’ve become stronger than ever,” Okpebholo said.
He added, “We’re already gearing up for the 2027 presidential election here in Edo. The campaign for President Tinubu’s re-election has officially begun. We’ll mobilize our youths, and your involvement is crucial. You’ll be proud of the choice you’ve made.”
Chairman Jarrett Tenebe also emphasized the party’s growing influence in the State Assembly, noting that with the new additions, the APC now commands the majority.
Hon. Osamwonyi cited internal crises within the PDP at all levels and Governor Okpebholo’s impressive achievements in a short time as key reasons for his defection.
“I’ve returned to APC because of the remarkable development the Governor has achieved in just a few months. The budget’s focus on Uhunmwonde is commendable, and I want to be part of driving progress for my people,” he said.
