Ganduje’s sudden exit from the leadership of the ruling party, where he previously served as Governor of Kano State, stirred widespread reactions within the political sphere.
While some reports linked his departure to speculations about the possible return of 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, to the APC, party officials insisted that Ganduje stepped down in good faith.
In his resignation letter, Ganduje pointed to pressing personal matters as the reason for his decision.
The APC leadership has since confirmed that consultations are underway to appoint a new national chairman.
Speaking during an interview with Channels Television on Tuesday, Senator Kalu revealed that he visited Ganduje at his residence two weeks prior to the resignation and that their discussions covered a range of topics, including the former chairman’s health.
“I met with the national chairman just two weeks ago at his home. We talked extensively — about his health, the party, and many other matters,” Kalu stated. “Health issues are often unpredictable and beyond our control.”
