Garba Shehu Finally Reveals Why He Switched From Atiku To Buhari

Speaking on Tuesday in Abuja during a media parley ahead of the launch of his memoir “According to the President: Lessons from a Presidential Spokesperson’s Experience”, scheduled for public presentation on July 9, Shehu clarified the circumstances surrounding his decision.

He firmly stated that he never abandoned Atiku, emphasizing that following the 2014 APC presidential primary, all contenders—including Atiku—donated their campaign structures and assets to support Buhari. According to Shehu, this unity led to his appointment as the spokesperson of Buhari’s campaign council, and later as presidential spokesperson after Buhari won the general election.

Meanwhile, Atiku’s Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, has pushed back against President Bola Tinubu’s recent remarks labeling opposition figures as “political IDPs.” In a Tuesday statement, Shaibu emphasized that Atiku, along with other former governors like Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi, and Nasir El-Rufai, are uniting with the shared mission of rescuing Nigeria.

“These leaders may be political refugees in structure, but not in influence,” Shaibu said. “In fact, they’ve become stronger in opposition. From Atiku to Obi, Amaechi to El-Rufai, their focus is not just on winning—it’s on redemption.”

Shaibu went further to criticize Tinubu’s administration, calling it a cabal of “urban bandits” who seized power through manipulation. He predicted that due to widespread poverty, hunger, and economic hardship, the ruling APC would be rejected by Nigerians in the 2027 elections.

“No amount of propaganda can mask hunger. Public relations won’t erase poverty. Fuel is out of reach, the naira has crumbled, and food inflation is punishing Nigerians daily,” he concluded.
