Recent tensions flared on Twitter when figures Peter Obi and Reno Omokri clashed over claims related to financial assistance extended to journalist Oseni Rufai. CONTINUE READING
The origins of their discord can be traced back to an on-air disagreement last year between Reno Omokri and Rufai about a subpoena from Chicago State University supporting the educational claims of then-presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Matters were reignited when Chicago State University responded to Atiku Abubakar’s faction, of which Reno Omokri is a member, debunking rumors of Tinubu’s non-enrollment at the institution. Reno was quick to revive the previous altercation, hinting at Oseni Rufai’s supposed leanings towards Peter Obi due to alleged financial contributions by Obi towards the funeral of Rufai’s father.
Addressing the claims on Twitter, Peter Obi asserted, “Ordinarily, I do not get involved in name-calling and mud-slinging. Neither do I attack people nor try to defame their personalities in the course of my political journey… I do however need to clarify a few issues, especially since a third party is involved. There is a recent case where my name has been mentioned in a malicious and cheap blackmail against one of Nigeria’s best Television presenters, Mr. Rufai Oseni… Let me clearly state that this is a categorical lie. It is not true, cannot be true and will never be true. Everyone who understands or follows my approach to things will attest to the fact that I do not give anyone money to promote my name.” CONTINUE READING
Reno Omokri fired back, “Look, I have a Masters in Law and am not moved by empty sophistry. I asked a question that Mr. Peter Obi has NOT answered and has tried to use semantics to dodge. My question is this: Did Peter Obi fund the funeral of Mr Rufai Oseni’s father by giving him money in cash or via electronic means, either directly or through a third party, and has that influenced Mr. Oseni’s open bias in favour of Peter Obi… Did you or did you not give money, either directly or indirectly, to Mr Rufai Oseni? Yes or no? Simple.”

The fiery exchanges between Obi and Omokri have captivated a broad audience, leading to a wave of discussions and debates on the veracity of the claims and the underlying dynamics at play.
