In Abuja, the German President is scheduled to meet with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, President of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission. These discussions are expected to strengthen bilateral relations between Germany and Nigeria.
Following his time in the capital, President Steinmeier will travel to Lagos, where he plans to meet with business leaders, visit a startup hub, and engage with prominent cultural and civil society figures, including renowned artist Dr. Nike Okundaye and Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka. His visit to Lagos will also include a tour of the city, providing him with insights into its urban development challenges and opportunities.
Steinmeier will be accompanied by a delegation of German business executives from sectors such as IT, high-tech, and energy, highlighting Germany’s growing interest in investing in Nigeria.
The German Embassy statement reads: “The President of the Federal Republic of Germany, His Excellency Dr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, is set to arrive in Nigeria tomorrow, December 10, and will remain until December 12, 2024. In Abuja, President Steinmeier will meet with President Bola Tinubu and Dr. Alieu Touray, President of the ECOWAS Commission. Afterward, he will proceed to Lagos, where he will meet with business representatives, visit a startup hub, and engage with cultural and civil society figures such as Dr. Nike Okundaye, the iconic founder of the Nike Art Gallery, and the legendary Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka.”
The statement continued, “During his visit to Lagos, President Steinmeier will also tour the city to learn more about its urban development, environmental issues, and social challenges. He will be accompanied by a delegation of top German business leaders from major sectors, underscoring the increasing interest of German companies in exploring investment opportunities in Nigeria.
