God Gave Me A Life-Or-Death Choice – Pastor Adeboye On Why He Can’t Leave RCCG

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed that God gave him a stern warning never to leave the church, or risk the life of his firstborn child.

Adeboye made this revelation during the June Holy Ghost Service titled “Destined for Greatness (Part 2)”, held on Friday at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State.

Speaking on the importance of divine direction and remaining spiritually grounded, Adeboye criticized a rising trend among young Christians who frequently switch churches, often introducing themselves as newcomers wherever they go.

Reflecting on his personal journey of faith, Adeboye recalled that when he gave his life to Christ, many flourishing ministries existed. Despite their appeal, he said God specifically instructed him to remain in RCCG, even though it was relatively unknown at the time, with its headquarters in a humble building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos.

Despite his academic status as a university lecturer, God directed him to serve under a spiritual mentor who lacked formal education. He obeyed.

Adeboye urged young believers to prioritize God’s guidance over popularity or convenience, stressing that obedience to divine instruction is key.

He emphasized that his message was not meant to elevate RCCG above other churches, but to illustrate the importance of staying where God has placed one.

“When I got born again, there were three powerful ministries gaining attention. I faced several temptations to leave,” he shared. “But God told me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you must stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”

He concluded by encouraging the faithful to seek God’s direction and remain where He assigns them, rather than chasing trends or personal desires.
