He clarified that Gombe State received N2 billion from the N5 billion relief funds allocated by the federal government to states for purchasing food items to be distributed to vulnerable members of the public, alleviating the impacts of fuel subsidy removal.
Governor Yahaya, however, mentioned that the state anticipates receiving the outstanding balance, along with N1 billion worth of maize designated for each state from the national strategic reserve, facilitated by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Commending the federal government for disbursing the relief funds to all states, Governor Yahaya revealed that 48% of the allocation constitutes a loan repayable over 20 months, beginning from November this year at a rate of N120 million per month.
He expressed concern about the prolonged food crisis in the country, attributing the challenge to a multifaceted issue that requires comprehensive solutions from all stakeholders.
He stressed that relying solely on government-led palliative measures will offer only temporary relief.Governor Yahaya emphasized, “Despite the recurrent distribution of palliatives by the government, the persisting issue of escalating food prices persists due to its complex nature.
Palliatives alone will not offer a lasting remedy. Therefore, it is imperative for all stakeholders to collaborate in identifying a sustainable solution to the problem.”
