Good News For Bayern Fans As Vincent Kompany Leaves Hospital To Continue Recovery
Bayern Munich have confirmed that head coach Vincent Kompany has been discharged from hospital and is recovering well after collapsing at the club’s training ground last Friday.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the 40-year-old Belgian fell ill while watching Bayern Munich’s second team train and was subsequently taken to hospital for medical attention. Doctors reportedly diagnosed him with meningeal irritation, a condition involving inflammation or irritation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
Bayern’s board member for sport, Max Eberl, confirmed Kompany’s discharge on Wednesday ahead of the club’s German Cup fixture against Magdeburg, describing the development as encouraging news for everyone at the club.
“Given the circumstances, he’s doing well,” Eberl said, adding that Kompany had been discharged from hospital that day.
Eberl explained that the condition was responsible for the coach’s collapse and that he would now need adequate rest and medication to support his recovery. He also expressed confidence that Kompany would return to the touchline in good health.
Despite the positive update, Bayern Munich have yet to announce an official date for the coach’s return. The club had earlier indicated that his recovery could take weeks rather than days, suggesting that he may remain away from his managerial duties for some time.
Kompany had reportedly been recovering from a virus before the incident and had missed several training sessions. He also missed a pre-match press conference ahead of Bayern’s Champions League encounter with Arsenal last Tuesday, although he returned to the touchline for Wednesday’s match.
In his absence, English assistant coach Aaron Danks has assumed responsibility for the team and guided Bayern to a 3-1 victory over Freiburg on Sunday, helping the Bundesliga leaders maintain their momentum.
Bayern are now preparing for a crucial league encounter against title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, with uncertainty remaining over whether Kompany will be fit enough to return to the dugout.
The coach’s hospital discharge has provided a welcome boost for the German giants, who will be hoping he makes a full recovery before resuming his duties. For now, the club’s priority remains his health as Danks continues to oversee the team during his absence.
