Gov Alia Explodes: Ex-APGA Candidate’s Petition To Pope Is Nothing But Gossip And Bitterness
Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has dismissed a petition sent to Pope Leo XIV by former All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) governorship candidate, Joseph Waya.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In the petition, Waya accused the governor of actions that allegedly brought disrepute to the Catholic Church in Nigeria.
However, in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, Governor Alia described the petition as nothing more than “gossip and personal bitterness,” stressing that it did not deserve any serious attention.
He urged the public to disregard the petition, which he said was born out of frustration, and instead continue to support his administration’s efforts to reposition Benue on the path of progress.
Part of the statement reads:
“The attention of the Benue public has been drawn to a petition authored by Mr. Joseph Waya, the 2023 APGA gubernatorial candidate, and addressed to His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, alleging misconduct on the part of His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Governor of Benue State.
“This petition, by every measure, is founded on gossip and personal bitterness and does not warrant any response.
“But given its mischievous intent to mislead the public about the character of Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia and drag the Catholic Church into partisan politics, it is important to set the record straight.”
The statement further faulted Waya’s reliance on unverified online reports to back his allegations of financial misconduct, noting that credible authorities such as the Auditor-General, budget performance records, or anti-graft agencies like the EFCC had never indicted the governor.
Kula added that Waya’s claims collapse under scrutiny and amount to “hearsay and personal opinion.”
He also dismissed allegations of poor governance, stressing that the Alia administration has executed several people-oriented projects in just two years, contrary to Waya’s claims.
