Diri made this statement during a Christmas visit to Dickson’s country home in Toru-Orua, Sagbama Local Government Area (LGA), accompanied by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Daniel Alabrah, on Tuesday, Diri expressed concern over the spread of rumors in the state, emphasizing that his visit would put to rest speculations about a rift with Dickson.

The governor reiterated his commitment to continuing the collaborative effort to develop the state and called on politicians to avoid bitterness and divisiveness. He acknowledged that as the sitting governor, he is not perfect and emphasized the long-standing relationship they share, noting that any differences would be resolved amicably when they arise.

Diri stated, “There is too much bitterness in our political environment, and I believe this visit will help ease that. Anyone seeking political office should avoid bitterness. It is God who grants power, but He uses people. As we saw in this state, God used the former governor to help us transition smoothly.”

He continued, “As governor, I understand my decisions may not always be perfect and may sometimes upset people, including you, sir. But I am always open to discussions, and if needed, the government can reverse decisions when we realize they were wrong. We remain united. Politics will come and go, but we must remain committed to brotherliness and love, demonstrated through our actions.”

In response, Senator Dickson, who represents Bayelsa West in the National Assembly, expressed gratitude for the visit and assured that efforts by those seeking to sow discord between him and Diri had failed. He reaffirmed his dedication to working alongside the governor for the betterment of the state.

Dickson added, “This visit, which he has initiated, reinforces the strong personal bond and the connection between our people and families. We are thankful for the governor and his wife’s gesture.”
