Nwifuru made this statement during a Thanksgiving Mass at the Government House in Abakaliki, held as part of the 2024 Independence Anniversary celebrations. He commended Tinubu’s removal of the fuel subsidy, describing it as a well-considered policy that deserves support from all citizens.

He pointed out that prior to the subsidy’s elimination, fuel marketers had significant control over the country, often acting against the interests of the general population. “If the President had allowed these marketers to continue their practices, our country would not have advanced infrastructurally to this level. This decision by the President is timely,” he stated.

The governor expressed optimism that the difficulties arising from the subsidy removal would be short-lived, predicting that “within six months, fuel prices will be lower than they are now.”

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his commitment to creating an inclusive government in Ebonyi State, ensuring that the temporary impacts of the subsidy removal are minimized. “My goal is to ensure everyone is comfortable because we are all equal before God,” he said.

He also honored the contributions of the founding fathers who played pivotal roles in the establishment of the state 28 years ago and announced plans to recognize their efforts on October 1.

Furthermore, Nwifuru appealed for the support and prayers of the citizens as he navigates the responsibilities of governance. “No one is perfect. As leaders, we always need your prayers. It’s more beneficial to pray for leaders to realize their visions than to engage in gossip about them,” he concluded.
