The ceremony was part of events leading up to Rema’s homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium. Obaseki highlighted that Rema, as an ambassador of Benin and Edo State, was a fitting figure to honor with the naming of the arena, now called Rema Dome. He emphasized that the arena would attract visitors and international stars, enhancing the state’s tourism potential.
On his X account, Obaseki wrote, “It was a pleasure to have our global music icon @heisrema join me for the groundbreaking of the 6,000-capacity Edo Arena, now named ‘Rema’s Dome,’ located at the former Garrick Memorial School Ground on Ekenhuan Road in Benin City.” He noted that the Rema Dome would offer visitors a chance to experience Edo’s rich culture and create employment opportunities for local youth. Obaseki reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting tourism and attracting investment to the state.
