The tribunal’s decision, announced on April 2nd, 2025, dismissed the petition filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodaro, citing lack of merit. The ruling reaffirmed Okpebholo’s election mandate.

Upon arrival at Benin airport, the governor and his team were greeted by thousands of ecstatic supporters. The atmosphere was charged with excitement, and security personnel struggled to manage the massive crowd.

Governor Okpebholo immediately proceeded to the palace of the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, to express his gratitude for the monarch’s unwavering support and prayers throughout the election process.

At the palace, a jubilant Okpebholo addressed the crowd, thanking the people of Edo for their continued trust and support, and affirming that the tribunal’s decision was a true reflection of the people’s choice. He promised to continue working for the welfare of the state.

Oba Ewuare II, delighted by the outcome, encouraged the governor to remain steadfast in his efforts for the state’s progress.

The victory followed a tough electoral contest, in which Okpebholo triumphed over Asue Ighodaro of the PDP by a margin of 44,393 votes in the September 21st, 2024 election.
