According to reports, the Supreme Court, on Friday, nullified an Appeal Court decision from January 17 that had recognized Abure as the Labour Party’s national chairman. Usman, whose caretaker committee was formed by Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, and other party officials, described the ruling as a victory for democracy.

In a statement on Friday, the former Minister of Finance called on all parties involved in the case to collaborate with her committee to advance the party.

The statement read: “The Supreme Court’s recent ruling, which upheld the appeal filed by Senator Nenadi Usman and dismissed the Abure faction’s cross-appeal, is a victory for the rule of law and a significant step for our democracy.

“It is crucial to note that this is not a time for celebration—there are no winners or losers. What is most important now is our shared commitment to the Labour Party’s ideals and the aspirations of the Nigerian people. We must unite, with a focused purpose and vision, to move the party forward.

“The Labour Party remains one united family, unwavering in its mission to build a New Nigeria based on justice, equity, and people-centered governance.

“We urge all party members, supporters, and stakeholders to remain calm, focused, and dedicated to the democratic principles that bind us.”
