Gov Radda Reveals How Katsina Residents Are Fending Off BanditsGovernor Dikko Umar Radda of Katsina State has announced that his administration has successfully trained residents to defend themselves against bandit terrorists. In an interview with BBC Hausa, he explained that many communities in the state have become less accessible to bandits due to these self-defense measures.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Radda emphasized that the current number of security personnel in Nigeria is insufficient to address the widespread insecurity. He noted the necessity for locals to take action to support conventional security forces, highlighting that training community members to defend themselves has proven effective in deterring bandit attacks.

“We are not suggesting that people take up arms,” Radda clarified. “The security operatives we have are inadequate to protect all citizens. We urge communities to allow us to train their youth, equipping them to defend themselves until security forces can intervene. This initiative has shown positive results, as many areas are now less accessible to bandits due to local efforts.”

He lamented the situation where a small group of armed bandits can terrorize larger communities, stating, “It is unfortunate that three or four armed individuals can cause chaos in a community of 500 or 1,000 people.”

Radda reiterated the long-standing issue of inadequate security personnel in Nigeria, which prompted the establishment of the “Katsina Community Watch” after he took office. He explained that the initiative involves recruiting and training youth, providing them with operational equipment to enhance the effectiveness of existing security agencies.
