The Federal Ministry of Environment has taken a decisive step towards fostering a culture of waste reduction by deciding to eliminate the use of single-use plastics within its headquarters and affiliated agencies. Under the theme “Policy Embedment and Prioritisation of Key Action for Renewed Hope in Environmental Management,” the retreat underscored the ministry’s commitment to driving the realization of President Bola Tinubu’s vision. This commitment is outlined through the pursuit of 18 assigned deliverables and 48 Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
The communique urged staff to lead by example in championing climate-friendly practices, not only by discontinuing the use of single-use plastics but also by implementing other personal climate actions in their respective environments. It emphasized the need for synergy among all Departments and Agencies to achieve the set deliverables and indicators. Furthermore, the vision is to be disseminated to sub-national entities, the organized private sector, civil society organizations, and the entire Nigerian populace.
Recognizing the critical role of funding in achieving these deliverables, the communique emphasized the importance of effective communication. In summary, the Federal Ministry of Environment’s commitment to environmental sustainability and President Tinubu’s vision is evident in its strategic decisions, urging collaboration, responsible personal actions, and effective communication as key pillars in realizing these goals.
