While many have praised the government for this action, there are others who believe it is merely a small step in the right direction.

It is worth noting that the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Betta Edu, unveiled this government initiative, which is part of the National Social Register of the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT). She made this announcement during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Abuja.

Edu emphasized that this decision to incorporate retired civil servants into the program is a reflection of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to labor leaders, which he intends to carry out precisely.

“The President was very explicit in stating that vulnerable pensioners should be promptly added to the National Social Register to benefit from the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) as part of the expansion of the national social safety net.

This commitment was clearly outlined in his Independence Day speech, where he pledged N25,000 for 15 million households over three months,” she explained during the earlier meeting this month.
