Governor Adeleke Targeted? Man In Court Over Sh*cking Threat Allegations

A 32-year-old man, Rasaq Gafar, was on Wednesday arraigned before the Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan for allegedly threatening the life of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

Gafar was charged with threat to life, conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace, and attempted incitement. He pleaded not guilty to all allegations.

According to the prosecution, led by Matthew Ojei, the defendant allegedly committed the offences on July 12 in Ibadan. Ojei told the court that Gafar had posted threatening messages on social media, stating intentions to kill Governor Adeleke and acting in a way likely to disrupt public order.

The prosecution stated that Gafar’s actions contravened Sections 249(D) and 323 of the Oyo State Criminal Code Law, 2000.

Defence counsel, Marvelous Ojeleye, appealed to the court to grant bail to his client on lenient conditions.

Chief Magistrate Olabisi Ogunkanmi granted Gafar bail in the sum of ₦2.5 million, with two sureties in the same amount. The court ordered that one surety must own a landed property and the other must be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned until November 13 for further hearing.

Meanwhile, Governor Ademola Adeleke is currently in the United States to attend the wedding of his nephew, Nigerian music star Davido, and Chioma Rowland. The white wedding is scheduled to take place in Miami, Florida, this August.
