However, Governor Akeredolu’s Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy, Dr. Doyin Odebowale, issued a statement on behalf of the governor, rejecting the apology and disputing some of the claims made by the deputy governor.

In his apology, Aiyedatiwa attributed the political crisis to desperate politicians in the state and professed his loyalty to Governor Akeredolu.

He also denied any involvement in sponsoring protests against the governor. Governor Akeredolu’s camp disagreed with some key points in the apology.

They refuted Aiyedatiwa’s assertion that Governor Akeredolu had intervened in the crisis by persuading the state House of Assembly to consider political solutions.

They also contested the deputy governor’s denial of sponsoring any group to protest against Akeredolu.

The statement from Governor Akeredolu’s camp emphasized that the governor does not interfere in the affairs of the Ondo State House of Assembly and rejected any suggestions of his meddling in the legislative branch.

They called on Aiyedatiwa to present his defense regarding the allegations of misconduct against him before the House of Assembly, rather than addressing the matter through the media.

Aiyedatiwa’s reference to Governor Akeredolu’s health challenges was also criticized in the statement, with Akeredolu’s camp finding it unfortunate.

They considered it an attempt to exploit the governor’s health situation for political gain in preparation for the upcoming 2024 gubernatorial election. The rejection of the deputy’s apology underscores the continued political tensions in Ondo State.
