Governor Diri Set To Dump PDP for APC On October 14 — Insider Reveals
A highly placed source has revealed that Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, is preparing to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to the insider, who spoke with Daily Sun, the official defection is scheduled to take place on October 14.
It was gathered that Governor Diri has kept his plans discreet, largely due to internal frictions within the Bayelsa APC, especially between factions loyal to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, and other party leaders.
Findings suggest that the governor’s decision to dump the PDP stems from the deepening crisis within the party, which has made it less appealing for him and his close allies to continue their political pursuits ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Before making his final decision, Diri reportedly consulted several Bayelsa elders and out of respect, also informed former President Goodluck Jonathan about his intention to leave the PDP.
Sources added that Diri has secured the backing of a majority of Bayelsa State House of Assembly members, many of whom are expected to join him in the defection.
A top lawmaker close to the governor confirmed the development, saying the decision was final.
“There’s no going back on the governor’s move to the APC. We’ve gone past the consultation stage. The governor will be defecting alongside several members of the House of Assembly, though not everyone is crossing over. Some members of the National Assembly will also follow him — including Senator Konbowei Benson. The defection will likely happen next week,” the source said.
