In a commendable move aimed at addressing the longstanding issue of pensioners’ gratuities in Taraba State, Governor Agbu Kefas has sanctioned the allocation of N1 billion for this purpose. The governor, expressing his commitment to upholding the welfare of diligent workers, emphasized that his administration would not forsake those who have dedicated their years in service.
In addition to the initial N1 billion allocation, Governor Kefas has further approved a monthly allocation of N200 million to gradually clear the backlog of gratuity payments. He stressed the importance of honoring the entitlements of workers who have tirelessly served the state, deeming it unjust to neglect their rightful dues.
The Permanent Secretary of Pensions, Mrs. Rose Garba Ajiya, hailed the governor’s decision, highlighting its significance in bringing an end to the years of anguish and frustration experienced by elderly pensioners. Mrs. Ajiya assured that the pension department is fully prepared to initiate payments promptly, citing meticulous record-keeping as a crucial factor in ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
For the pensioners, this gesture holds immense significance, as they recall the last time such support was extended to them dating back to 2011. They have urged Governor Kefas to personally oversee the payment process, underscoring the importance of transparent and accountable management in fulfilling these commitments.
