The previous administration under Okezie Ikpeazu worsened the situation when it demolished numerous structures it considered illegal on both sides of the road in an unsuccessful attempt to rehabilitate it.
The road, serving as a crucial link to the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway from the state’s commercial center, is one of the legacies of the late former governor of the old Imo State, Sam Mbakwe.
During the event, Otti emphasized that the project isn’t merely a political gesture for short-term gains but a comprehensive effort to restore the road’s durability and economic significance.
“I am pleased that we are taking another strategic step in fulfilling one of my major campaign promises, which is to permanently address the issues with this road,” he stated.
He expressed a sense of fulfillment that his administration had achieved another milestone in what has been a long process, commencing after his victory on March 22, 2023.
