Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, called upon the state’s residents to embrace religious tolerance and coexist harmoniously with one another.
Sanwo-Olu delivered this message during the turbanning ceremony of veteran Journalist and Public Affairs Officer, Sheikh Alabi Adedoyin Akoshile, as the Grand Khalifa of the Lagos State Tijaniyya Forum (LASTIF). The ceremony took place at the Central Mosque in Lagos.

He also emphasized the importance of promoting tolerance among diverse groups through the National Inter-Religious Council (NIREC).
Sanwo-Olu affirmed that NIREC plays a significant role in fostering harmony among individuals from different backgrounds, ethnicities, and religious beliefs.
The governor explained that the Lagos State government has established favorable policies to include people of various religions and backgrounds.
He stressed the government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone is involved in the policymaking process.
Sanwo-Olu stated, “Tolerance and improving the living standards of the people are our priorities in Lagos State. Government is all about the people, and when we talk about the people, we talk about religion. Religion is an integral part of governance, and Lagos has set the pace for other states.”
Highlighting the importance of NIREC, he added, “NIREC brings together individuals from all religious backgrounds, and we collaborate to address the religious affairs of the people.
In Lagos, we bring together Muslims and Christians from across all local government areas to address religious matters and intervene in conflicts when necessary.”
The governor expressed confidence that the new Grand Khalifa would bridge the gap between society and the government, fostering closer ties and understanding.
In response, the newly appointed Grand Khalifa of Lagos State Tijaniyya expressed his gratitude to Allah for the honor and appreciated the presence of Governor Sanwo-Olu at the event. He also thanked the forum’s leadership for entrusting him with this role.
