A teacher who was kidnapped alongside the Kuriga schoolchildren in Kaduna State’s Chikun Local Government Area has tragically passed away during captivity.

Governor Uba Sani revealed this information during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics program, stating that the military, in conjunction with local authorities from neighboring Zamfara State, successfully rescued all the abducted schoolchildren.

The abduction occurred on March 7, 2024, at the Government Secondary and Primary Schools, Kuriga 1, Chikun LGA of the state. Governor Sani disclosed that the teacher died due to health complications while being held captive.

Governor Sani stated, “It’s only one person that has not returned, and that is the teacher. That is the fact of the matter, but all of the 137 children are safely back.” He further explained, “We had the unfortunate incident that the teacher couldn’t make it because he had some complications; he was sick — that was the report we got from the military and the security agencies, but the rest of the children, all of them are back with us.
