The authorities in Ogun State have launched an investigation following the tragic death of a man known only as Remi, who was reportedly stabbed to death during a heated dispute with two individuals from his community in the Ijeun Titun area of Abeokuta South Local Government Area on Saturday, March 23.
According to reports from Punch, the altercation escalated when individuals identified as Seyi, Ayeke, and Bado, suspected to be associated with loan sharking, confronted Remi, leading to a confrontation. Tragically, the situation turned violent, resulting in Remi being fatally stabbed in the neck, causing significant blood loss and ultimately leading to his demise. After realizing the severity of Remi’s injuries, Seyi and Ayeke fled the scene, leaving Bado to be apprehended by community members and handed over to the police.
A member of the community, speaking anonymously, stated, “Seyi is wanted by the people of Ijeun Titun Community in Abeokuta, Ogun state for conniving with two others to stab Remi, a guy who was harassed by loan company this morning over payment of the loan taken online. Seyi and Ayeke held Remi for one Bado to stab him in his neck which led to Remi’s death after the fatal injury and unstoppable bleeding. They both absconded immediately they killed Remi this morning.”
Confirming the incident, Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer for the state, announced that an investigation into the suspected murder has been initiated. She stated, “A case of suspected murder was reported at one of the divisional police stations in Abeokuta. One Remilekun Omotayo was stabbed in the neck by one Owoyemi Idowu over a minor argument on a loan. Investigation has commenced into the matter to ensure justice is served. Anyone found guilty will be punished according to the law.”
The tragic event underscores the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful means and highlights the need for swift justice in cases of violence.
