The governor expressed concern about ongoing reports of harassment of the public, particularly small traders, by government MDAs.

These incidents have raised doubts about the integrity of those entrusted with managing these agencies.

A statement from the governor’s chief press secretary and media adviser, Oguwike Nwachuku, highlighted Uzodimma’s response to a circulating voice message on social media, alleging extortion of petty traders in Owerri by individuals believed to be government agencies.

Although officials from the Owerri Capital Development Authority (OCDA) were implicated, the OCDA management has distanced itself, clarifying that its mandate does not include collecting fees on the streets.

In response to the allegations, OCDA’s general manager, Hon Franklin Nkem Nzewodo, condemned the voice message, viewing it as a calculated effort to undermine the agency’s work and reputation.

Nzewodo stressed that OCDA does not engage in the collection of money from street vendors in Owerri.
