The court order prevents the conduct of the 2023 election or any subsequent election scheduled for November 29 and 30.
The NSE’s leadership crisis originated on December 9, 2021, with the controversial online platform election for the 2022 National Executive Committee (NEC). Some members contested the results, alleging database hacking to manipulate the outcome.
In the ongoing legal proceedings (marked: CV/158/21), Engr. Joseph Akinteye, a contestant in the election, filed a motion on notice (M/490/23) on November 24, 2023.
Represented by Salisu Umar with A.A. Liman and Charles Ikechukwu, Akinteye named the NSE, its Board of Trustees Chairman, Engr. Emeka Eze, NSE 2021 Election Appeal Chairman, Engr. Charles Mbanefo, and Mrs. Margret Aina Oguntala as defendants.
Justice Gaba granted an interlocutory injunction restraining the 1st-3rd defendants, their representatives, agents, privies.
the NSE Electoral Panel, its Council and Board of Trustees, and anyone acting through them from inaugurating Engr Oguntala (4th defendant) as the elected president of the NSE in January 2024, based on the society’s Memorandum and Articles of Association (MEMART).
