During the World Rabies Day celebration in Umuahia, Abia State, the group’s president, Chukwunazom Cyra Obi, warned that consuming dog meat infected with rabies can be fatal. He expressed concern about the prevalence of stray dogs in urban and rural areas and noted that his organization has been actively capturing stray dogs in Umuahia while also conducting awareness campaigns about the dangers of rabies.

Obi emphasized that rabies poses a serious challenge to society and must be eradicated. He stated that vaccinating dogs is the most cost-effective way to prevent rabies in humans, as rabies is a vaccine-preventable zoonotic disease that impacts the central nervous system in infected individuals.

He further called on governments at all levels to commit to eradicating rabies by 2030.
