He Said I Was Ungrateful — Nigerian Woman Shares Emotional Story Behind Return From UK

A 30-year-old Nigerian woman, identified as Halima, has opened up about her decision to return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom with her two children following the breakdown of her marriage.

Halima shared her experience in an emotional video posted online, explaining that she relocated to the UK in 2022 to join her husband, who had obtained a student visa as the principal applicant. She and their two children travelled as his dependants.

According to her account, the couple had agreed before relocating that she would work long hours to help pay her husband’s tuition fees and cover household expenses. She said she fulfilled the arrangement, contributing significantly to his education and later helping him purchase a personal vehicle after he graduated and secured a full-time work visa.

However, Halima alleged that their relationship began to deteriorate after her husband completed his studies and secured employment. She claimed that he became unhappy with her work schedule, accusing her of placing her job ahead of caring for their children.

She explained that she often had to cancel profitable work shifts because her husband allegedly arranged appointments at short notice, leaving her with no alternative childcare arrangements. According to Halima, disagreements frequently ended with her husband reminding her that he was responsible for bringing her to the UK and accusing her of being ungrateful.

The mother of two said she sought the intervention of her husband’s brother in an attempt to resolve the dispute. However, she alleged that he sided with her husband and held her responsible for the marital problems.

Halima said efforts by family members to settle the matter were unsuccessful, leaving her to pursue a divorce. She eventually returned to Nigeria with her two children in July 2026.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Halima’s account has drawn attention to the challenges some families may face when balancing work, childcare and financial responsibilities after relocating abroad.

She said she has since begun rebuilding her life in Nigeria and establishing her independence following the end of the marriage.
