The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that he will actively oppose the re-election bid of Abia State Governor, Alex Otti.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Kalu made the declaration on Thursday at his country home in Igbere, where he expressed disappointment over the breakdown of his relationship with the governor. He explained that he had regarded Otti as a close friend and had never publicly criticised his administration until a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Njoku Okaoha, attacked him over his remarks about supporting President Bola Tinubu and delivering Abia State to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the former governor, his decision to campaign for the APC should not attract hostility. He described the reaction from the governor’s media team as unnecessary and accused them of instigating the rift between him and Otti.

Kalu stressed that he had refrained from criticising the state government for over two years, maintaining a cordial relationship with the governor. However, he said the press secretary’s statement amounted to a direct provocation, prompting his decision to openly affirm his commitment to the APC.

He noted that while he and his supporters worked for Otti’s victory in the 2023 governorship election, they would no longer do so, insisting that his political allegiance should be respected.

The senator also challenged claims of Governor Otti’s exceptional performance, arguing that the current administration has focused mainly on rehabilitating infrastructure projects initiated during his tenure as governor rather than executing new major developments.

Kalu further accused the governor of neglecting rural areas, stating that most of the roads he has facilitated as a senator are newly constructed access routes to farmlands, unlike the state government’s projects.

Recalling his time in office, Kalu said his administration provided free education and healthcare, achievements he claimed earned commendation from former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who reportedly described him as an “action governor.”

He concluded by dismissing praise of the present administration on social media, insisting that governance should be judged by tangible outcomes rather than online narratives.
