Barrister Dayabu Ayuba, the Prosecuting Counsel and State Counsel with the Ministry of Justice, revealed the verdict in an interview with journalists in Bauchi on Saturday. Ayuba presented three witnesses during the trial, including the victim, a six-year-old girl, who testified that the assault occurred during a screening for school admission after official hours.

The accused, Zakari, reportedly held the girl for an extended period, and although he did not engage in full penetration, his actions were deemed equivalent to rape under legal definitions. This incident echoes a previous case in 2023, where a Bauchi High Court Judge sentenced Yusuf Bako to life imprisonment for raping a girl in a mosque.

Furthermore, two individuals received 35-year prison terms each for culpable homicide and the gruesome act of removing the private part of a teenage girl in Jama’are, underscoring the severity of such crimes within the region.
