Heartbreaking Incident: Imo Pharmacist Murdered While Rescuing Kidnapped Brother

Gunmen believed to be kidnappers have fatally shot a businessman identified as Mr. Henry Ejiogu Ogbuji in Imo State, Nigeria.

Henry, a pharmacist operating at Owerri Plaza, was killed on the night of Friday, February 23, 2024, in the Irete Autonomous Community of Owerri West Council Area.

Reports indicate that the suspected kidnappers invaded the residence of the victim’s brother, Mr. Sunny Ogbuji, situated on Obinwanne street in Umuohia Irete, Owerri West LGA, and forcibly abducted him.

Upon learning of his elder brother’s abduction after returning from his business, Henry pursued the kidnappers along the road leading to the Owerri/Onitsha Expressway (Umungada junction).

As the abductors fled with his elder brother in a vehicle, they noticed Henry approaching and, fearing capture, shot him in the chest, resulting in his immediate death.

Fortunately, at that moment, his elder brother managed to escape from the abductors.

The State Police Command’s spokesperson, ASP Henry Okoye, confirmed the incident on Saturday, assuring the public that the authorities are actively addressing the situation. He pledged that the perpetrators would be apprehended and face legal consequences as investigations are currently underway.

The deceased’s body has been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Center, FMC, Owerri.

This tragic event serves as a reminder of the prevalent security challenges in the region, prompting authorities to intensify efforts in ensuring the safety of citizens.
