Edo State Deputy Governor, Shaibu, Expresses Concerns Over Impeachment Threats

The Deputy Governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, expressed his concern over a recent plot aimed at removing him from office. This concern has escalated following his selection as the factional candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the upcoming gubernatorial election. Shaibu addressed the media during a press conference in Abuja, revealing that the scheme gained momentum after his victory in the parallel primaries held at his Benin residence.

During the PDP governorship primary, the returning officer, Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State, declared Asue Ighodalo as the winner with 577 votes. However, in the concurrent primaries at the Deputy Governor’s residence, the returning officer, Bartholomew Moses, declared Shaibu the winner with a substantial margin of over 300 votes.

Shaibu disclosed that his team has been notifying him about ongoing efforts to impeach him, with the perpetrators citing his advancement in the electoral process as a reason for his removal. Despite the threats, Shaibu emphasized his commitment to defending his rights, particularly his constitutional right to contest the election. He asserted that if standing up for his constitutional rights leads to impeachment proceedings, he is prepared to face the legal process, trusting that the courts will interpret and uphold the constitution.
