The news of Iwuanyanwu’s death was confirmed on Thursday by his son, Jide Iwuanyanwu. The 82-year-old Iwuanyanwu passed away after a brief illness.
In his statement released Thursday evening, Obi recalled a recent hospital visit where Iwuanyanwu had assured him of his impending recovery. Obi praised the deceased for his exemplary life and leadership, and he extended his condolences to Iwuanyanwu’s family and all those mourning his loss.
Obi said, “I am deeply saddened by the passing of Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, an esteemed elder statesman and President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide. His death has left a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He was not only a father figure but also a dedicated advocate for national unity and progress, transcending ethnic and tribal lines.”
He continued, “Chief Iwuanyanwu was a guiding mentor and a source of invaluable advice. I had visited him in the hospital on the 11th of this month with Ambassador Okey Emuchey, where he expressed hope for his recovery. I continued to pray for his health until the unfortunate news of his passing.”
Obi concluded his statement by offering his heartfelt condolences to Iwuanyanwu’s immediate family, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, and the nation, praying for strength to endure the loss and eternal peace for the deceased.
